Legislation to ban MP floor crossings without facing voters in a byelection introduced by NDP

NDP MP Don Davies has introduced a bill to ban MPs from crossing the floor without getting the support of their voters in a byelection. This legislation comes at a pertinent time as five MPs in the last six months have switched sides, joining Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal caucus, and creating a federal majority. “Mark Carney has become the first prime minister in Canadian history to assemble a majority government through floor-crossing instead of through the ballet box,” Davies told reporters in the House of Commons Tuesday.
