We celebrate giftedness, talent, and achievement, but rarely talk about the pressure attached to them. In this heartfelt TEDx talk, a young scholar explores perfectionism, identity, and the hidden emotional burden of opportunities, challenging us to see people not for what they can do but for who they truly are. Maya Otti is a 15-year-old spoken word artist, creative writer, youth advocate, and graphic designer. Known by her pen name Twilight, she uses poetry and storytelling to explore social issues, personal struggles, and the emotional realities of everyday life.
She is also the founder of Inhale, a youth-led respiratory awareness initiative focused on educating young people about respiratory health, raising awareness about conditions such as asthma, and advocating for cleaner, safer environments for children.
Beyond the stage, Maya is a top-performing student at her current school and has served as a class captain, demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and a strong commitment to excellence. She is also an avid reader and a passionate fan of WWE.
Maya will be speaking on The Hidden Weight of Opportunities and the complex realities behind what society often defines as success. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
