Amid conversations about Alberta separation, many are faced with uncertainty and what it would mean for businesses, particularly in a place such as Lloydminster – a border city that resides between Alberta and Saskatchewan.
“For us as a business it will be completely different regulations, and a lot of different red tape to get through, but for a consumer, there's a lot to consider. Are we going to need a passport to go five miles out of town? Different currency? Does the Canadian money stop here and now it’s a different currency?” Lloydminster real estate agent Michael Dewing said.
“It affects my business no matter where I show property in the region, because we work in 5,000 square miles around the city on both sides of the border,” Dewing added.
As Sarah Komadina reports, questions surrounding military, pension, passports and currency are still unanswered.
