Support for Alberta separation referendum drops to less than 1 in 5 ahead of debate

Support for Alberta separation appears to be losing momentum ahead of a proposed October referendum, according to new Ipsos polling. Just 19 per cent of Albertans said they would support moving forward with a binding separation vote, down significantly from January. The survey also found Canadians overwhelmingly want Alberta to remain in Canada, while supporters of staying were far more certain of their choice than those backing separation. Rural Albertans remained the most supportive of separation, while support was lowest in Calgary and Edmonton. Drew Stremick reports.
