Gudo is a Soul Keeper, a spirit who guides human souls into their next life. When he befriends a young girl named Yuri, he discovers that her untimely death has left her cursed with unresolved rage and regret. As Yuri’s soul teeters on the edge of annihilation, Gudo embarks on a dangerous journey to stop her from unleashing horrible destruction on both the human world and the spirit realm.  Another World is a dark fairytale that explores forgiveness and reconciliation in the face of hatred and despair. The directorial debut from Tommy Ng Kai Chung brings together the finest young talent from Hong Kong to create a poignant fantasy that boasts awe-inspiring action and captivating visuals. Based on the novel by Naka Saijo, SENNENKI, published by Tokuma Shoten Publishing Co., Ltd. Another World comes to theatres in North American in its original Cantonese with English subtitles beginning June 5, 2026. The film is distributed by GKIDS, the Academy-Award winning animation distributor and producer, with plans to reveal home entertainment details this summer.  The dark fantasy drama is the directorial debut of Tommy Ng Kai Chung, written and produced by Polly Yeung Po Man, and produced by veteran film producer Chan Gin Kai. The filmmakers first released a 14-minute short in 2019, garnering critical acclaim across international festivals, which catalyzed the launch of the feature-length film. The highly anticipated feature made its world premiere at the prestigious 2025 Annecy International Animation Film Festival as an Official Selection in the Midnight Specials section. This premiere marked the first time in over two decades that a Hong Kong animated feature has been invited to Annecy since My Life as McDull in 2003. Another World has since become the highest-grossing Hong Kong film of 2025, the highest-grossing Hong Kong animated film in history, and has been awarded “Best Animated Feature” at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards. Another World is a global collaboration spanning artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, France, and the Philippines. The feature film is financed through equity investments from the Film Development Fund of Hong Kong and Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) (Hong Kong), AnimeKey (Saudi Arabia), Full Colour Limited (Hong Kong), TMZ Media (China), and Digital Hollywood University (Japan), as well as a production grant from the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
