Who better to test two RC jet boats… than someone who’s never driven one before? Today, my 12-year-old son Maurice hits the water for the first time—running both the Streamline RC Thrasher (6S) and the ProBoat Jetstream (4S) back-to-back in a shallow creek.
A lot of you have asked which one is “better”… but instead of a biased breakdown, we went out as a father and son team to have some fun and see what actually happens when you put them to the test.
We’re not engineers—we might not catch every detail—but the differences show up fast.
Thrasher (6S / 22V) (http://www.steamlinerc.com)
Built for power and punishment:
• Bilge pump keeps water out quick
• Self-righting system (huge when things go wrong)
• Centered battery for balance
• Adjustable Thrust Vectoring
• Slide-Locking & Screw Lid with integrated GoPro Camera Mount
• Simple design = less to break or snag
Trade-offs?
• Not a lot of hull details
• No tow points for trailer
• Reverse bucket is optional
Jetstream (4S / 16V) (http://www.horizonhobby.com)
Built for style and ease of use:
• LED lights + aggressive look w/Driver
• On/off switches (for ESC and one for LED)
• Large area to Glue or Tape Go Pro Camera Mount in Passenger Seat
• Reverse bucket for control
• Side-mounted battery
Trade-offs?
• No bilge pump — can take on water over time
• No self-righting — if it flips, you’re swimming… or waiting
• Reverse bucket can catch in rough terrain
Two boats. Two completely different approaches.
So we let Maurice rip them both… and give his honest, first-time impressions.
And yeah… you might be surprised what he prefers.
