The Ayodhya issue was never merely a political dispute, but a centuries-old civilisational question involving faith, history, archaeology, law, and identity. The legal battle formally began in 1950, after idols of Shri Ram Lalla appeared beneath the disputed structure in December 1949. Over decades, multiple suits were filed by Hindu parties, the Sunni Waqf Board, and even by Ram Lalla Virajman as a juridical entity under Hindu law.
A major turning point came through archaeological findings by the Archaeological Survey of India, which reported evidence of a massive underlying structure associated with North Indian temple architecture. Historical records and testimonies also documented centuries of Hindu worship at the site.
In 2019, the Supreme Court delivered its historic verdict, awarding the disputed land for the Ram Mandir while allocating alternate land for a mosque, resolving one of India’s longest legal and civilisational disputes through constitutional means.
