Canada's economic outlook largely hinges on the upcoming U.S. trade talks. Multiple reports, citing unnamed U.S. officials, claim the Trump administration has laid out its demands for the auto sector. The Americans reportedly want half of all new vehicle parts to come from the U.S., in order to qualify for lower tariffs.
“There are some off-ramps on this, things that are possible for automotive that are quantifiably beneficial to the U.S., but don't necessarily come at the expense of the Canadian interests or Mexican interests.” Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association President Flavio Volpe said.
