A bizarre ATM glitch in Vasai, Maharashtra, recently went viral after a machine allegedly started dispensing five times more cash than customers requested. The incident happened in the Golani Naka area of Vasai, where people discovered that withdrawing ₹100 resulted in ₹500 being dispensed, while requests for ₹400 reportedly produced ₹2,000 in cash. Surprisingly, only the original requested amount was deducted from customers’ bank accounts.
As news of the malfunction spread, large crowds quickly. Videos from the scene circulated widely on social media, showing long queues and chaos near the machine. According to reports, the ATM belonged to Hitachi Payment Services and experienced a technical configuration error involving currency denomination settings.
The situation escalated so rapidly that local police had to intervene to control the crowd and stop further transactions. Authorities temporarily shut down the ATM while bank officials and technical teams inspected the machine to identify the cause of the malfunction.
The incident became one of the most talked-about viral stories in Maharashtra this week.
