Why a senator-judge must be present during impeachment trial, according to Adiong | ANC

House prosecution panel spokesperson and Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong on Thursday (May 28) insisted that senator-judges must be physically present during impeachment proceedings to fully appreciate the evidence and testimonies presented during the trial. Adiong stressed that, like in ordinary court proceedings, judges need to personally observe witnesses on the stand to assess their credibility and determine whether they are telling the truth. He said the same principle should apply in an impeachment court, where senators are tasked to weigh evidence and testimonies before casting their votes. This after Sen. Rodante Marcoleta sought to amend Senate rules to allow senators to participate and vote through virtual teleconferencing during sessions.
