Built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal, Leh Palace—also known as Lachen Palkar Palace—is one of Ladakh's most important historical landmarks. The impressive nine-story structure dominates the hillside and is often compared to the famous Potala Palace due to its similar architectural style.
Below the palace lies the sprawling town of Leh, characterized by traditional flat-roofed houses, narrow streets, monasteries, and cultural landmarks. A prominent mosque minaret visible within the townscape reflects the rich cultural diversity and historical trade connections of the region.
Surrounding the city are the dramatic, barren mountains of Ladakh, often referred to as the "Land of High Passes." The stark beauty of these rugged Himalayan landscapes, combined with the deep blue skies and crisp mountain air, creates one of India's most distinctive and breathtaking environments.
Leh Palace served as the royal residence of Ladakh's rulers before the royal family moved to Stok Palace. Today, it stands as a symbol of Ladakh's rich history, offering visitors panoramic views of the city and the surrounding mountain ranges.
