影片說明
I was accidentally baptised as a child because I thought I was going swimming.
That strange moment turned into a lifetime of watching how religion works very differently in America compared to the UK.
In this video I explain, from personal experience and cultural history, why religion feels so much more intense, organised, and extreme in the United States, and why Americans are far more likely to fall into cults, megachurches, and belief systems built around certainty and obedience.
I grew up around Mormonism, Southern Baptists, atheism, and later spent 15 years living in California, so this isn’t just a “Bible Belt” story. Cults and extreme religion exist all over America, not just the South, and the reasons are structural, cultural, and economic.
This isn’t an attack on faith.
It’s an explanation of how belief operates differently in the US vs the UK and why British scepticism, institutions, and humour make a huge difference.
In this video I cover:
– Why Americans are far more religious than Brits
– Where religion ends and cult-like behaviour begins
– How megachurches and the prosperity gospel work
– Why money, power, and belief mix so easily in the US
– Why the UK is more resistant (but not immune) to cults
– How my own family showed me belief vs behaviour in real life
If you’ve ever wondered why American religion feels so intense from the outside, this is the explanation.
