The Truth About Parentification.
Some people grew up learning how to read silence before they ever learned how to explain their feelings. You notice the shift in someone’s tone before anyone else does. You can tell when tension is coming before it arrives. People call you emotionally intelligent because you know exactly what to say, when to stay calm, and how to make things feel stable. But sometimes that ability wasn’t learned in peace. Sometimes it was survival. When a child grows up responsible for the emotional weather inside the home, they stop being just a child. They become observant, careful, hyper aware. The skill looks impressive as an adult, but the reason it exists is often painful. Maybe you never became “mature” early. Maybe you just learned that feeling safe depended on understanding everyone else first.
