Nowadays it seems that just about any game that could have a progression system, does have a progression system. They can be a great way to engage players, extend a game's length, and give you more bang for your buck. However, while I do enjoy them just as much as the next person, I think they have become stagnant in their design/implementation, which has led to a bit of disconnect between player and character. Nowhere is this more noticeable than in a game like The Outer Worlds. A delightful game to experience no doubt, but I think it was dragged down by it's shallow and run of the mill progression system. Just like many, many other titles..
