Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said he was connecting the dots between President Trump's threats to prevent the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge and a $1 million donation to a pro-Trump super PAC by the owner of the competing Ambassador Bridge, Matthew Moroun: "It is corruption." Buttigieg spoke at the Mackinac Policy Conference on Wednesday, May 27.
In February, President Trump began threatening to prevent the bridge from opening unless Canada hammered out an economic deal he felt would benefit the U.S.
Spokespersons for both the White House and the super PAC MAGA Inc. have continually dismissed suggestions of any connection between the donation and Trump’s stance. MLive requests for comment to the Moroun family have not been returned.
